    Description

Original Antique 1885 Boorne & May, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Imperial Cabinet Card Photograph of "Assinaitappi, Sarcee Indian & Squaw" with Tipi, William Hanson Boorne photograph.  This cabinet card is in vintage condition with a crease that is not broken through, yellowing, soiling, & chipped corners.  The black mount measures 8" x 9 7/8", the image is 9 1/4" x 7".  On the bottom of the mount it says: Boorne & May Limited, Calgary, Alberta.  In the negative printed on the image it says: 170. Assinaitappi, Sarcee Indian & Squaw.  The image is a striking one, of a Sarcee man wrapped in a Hudson Bay wool blanket.  He has long braids & is standing in front of a magnificent painted hide tipi.  The tipi has polka dots painted on the top & bottom, and two large birds taking off in flight on the back.  His wife is sitting on the ground off to the right side.  In the background you can see three other smaller tipis.  The Sarcee
(now called the Tsuut'ina Nation) likely acquired their Plains Indian culture from the Blackfoot.  And despite the damage, it's still an important cabinet card for any First Nations image collector.
