Description

Baltimore Black Sox
When the Eastern Colored League folded, a replacement league was organized for the 1929 season. Consisting of essentially the same ballclubs as it’s predecessor, the American Negro League lasted only one season, and the Baltimore Black Sox copped the league’s only pennant by winning both halves of the split season with an aggregate .700 percentage. The Black Sox boasted an infield consisting of Dick Lundy at Shortstop, Oliver Marcelle at third base, playing manager Frank Warfield at second base, and slugger Jud “Boojum” Wilson at first base. This was the first inner defense to be called the “million-dollar infield.”
