Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen:
The Tri-City Motorcycle Club welcomes you to
Belmont Stadium for the final race meet of the
1948 season. We have endeavored to bring to you
the outstanding event of this district for this year.
We believe this final event will be a fitting climax
to our short, but very good, season of night races,
and if you have missed witnessing these night
races, you have missed some really good shows.
This afternoon we bring to you not one Main
Event, but two outstanding events along with our
Time Trials, which are always good, and our Heat
Races and Trophy Dash which has never failed
to be a thriller.
Our feature Main Event for this afternoon will
be for the Belmont Championship of which the
winner will become the proud possessor of that
beautiful Championship Trophy. The riders in
this event do not qualify by time trials, but have
won their right to ride this event by the points
they have gained through the season, which
naturally brings together the best men and ma-
chines. Topmost on the list of eight riders is
SHORTY TOMPKINS, Sacramento, with a total
of 119 points. Next is AL RUDY of San Jose with
100 points. Then in order come BOB CHAVES of
San Jose 06 points, ED FURGENDES of Vallejo
64 points, PHIL CANCILLA of San Jose 60 points,
ROY ANDRES of Stockton 55 points, “WELD”
BILL ROGERS of Stockton 53 points, and last is
CHARLIE ARTEL of San Francisco 36 points.
Alternates will be DICK McAFEE of Alameda 33
points, CY HOMER of Sacramento 32 points, and
GEORGE COOPER of Vallejo 31 points.
These boys are all outstanding riders and their
equipment is the best there is. SHORTY TOMP-
KINS has put on some fine exhibitions at the
night races, but don’t let that fool you. This is
a daytime race and track conditions are bound to
be different inasmuch as the track will be dry
and at night it is always moist. AL RUDY will
give you an outstanding performance but don’t
place any bets. Remember, ROY ANDRES is
fresh from some Championships on some Eastern
daytime %-mile tracks. He could easily be the
dark horse and if “WILD" BILL ROGERS should
get loose he will certainly be hard to catch. This
could be called a Trophy Dash with eight top-
notch riders and machines.
The Tri-City Motorcycle Club would like to call
your attention to the photograph on the front
cover of this Program. At last, after many re-
quests, we have been able to get these boys to
stand still long enough to get a group picture.
These are the boys who have brought to you
these fine programs. Each of these boys are very
proud to be a member of the Tri-City M. C. and
have worked very hard to make these shows the
finest in the district. They also have tried very
hard to build good public opinion by their actions
and good conduct and have succeeded to a very
great extent, and in 1949 they will welcome you
back to Belmont for another good season which
will open sometime after May 1st, with possibly
a new and better Program and many new riders
and machines so until that time Tri-City M. C.
bids you adieu and good luck and good health.
TRI-CITY MOTORCYCLE CLUB
SHORTY CALHOON, President.
