    Collins doesn't. He

    There is probably not one throttle
    jockey who hasn't tooled along on a
    country road at night and contem-
    plated what it would be like to hit a
    dog. Everybody who has, or claims
    to know someone who has, says it
    is much the same as hitting a brick
    wall. It stops you awful sudden, or
    sends you off on a ricochet shot into
    something that does. Such chilling
    thoughts cause you to tighten your
    grip on the wick, and try a little harder
    to pierce the darkness out beyond the
    headlight gleam.
    A dog is bad enough. How would

    Last July 14 John Collins and his
    wife Emma were truckin' on home
    after spending the day swimming at
    Northfork. They had just made it
    through Santiam Passon22,and were
    cooking along at about 65, anxious
    to get home to their two drape apes,
    about nine in the evening.
