Description

This is an antique Whitall, Tatum & Co. Apothecary Scales.  It is in an oak case with a hinged oak and glass lid.  It has a white marble stone covering over the balance mechanism housed underneath.   There is a working dial which lifts up the balance to free it for weighing objects.  (With a replacement key that is not original.)  Under the glass lid are removable weighing pan holders and two chrome weighing pans in which weights and objects/medicine ingredients were placed.  (It does not have weights with it but we do have a partial set of weights also listed on eBay which we will include with the scales at a substantial discount.)  The Scales Case measures 13 inches by 6 inches on the base and is 7.75 inches tall.  It weighs nearly 9 pounds.
The Whitall, Tatum & Co. was founded in 1806 in New Jersey and is well known for the bottles and glassware which they made into the 1930's.  This scale was likely made around 1900-1920 but it is not dated anywhere.  (We have had a couple of these over the years and some have a Company name plate but this one does not.). These scales make a nice addition to any pharmacy or pharmacists office decor.   They are not easy to find, especially with the weight pans and the scales actually working.   We have not found one in better condition.  Often the marble plate is quite discolored but this one is in very good condition.   We invite you to closely examine the photos, ask any questions, and make an offer.  We can ship it very well packaged within the U.S. quite inexpensively and we accept returns for any reason within 30 days.
