    Black Panther Party
    was originally called the
Black Panther Party for Self Defense
    . It was
founded in Oakland, California, in 1966,
following the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X.
In the the fall of 1966, members of the BPP
    contacted
Fox Buttons and came to our NY office.
    We worked with them
    to
    design a
    subtle but
    powerful logo that could
    be used
    as a symbol
of support as well as an
    identification
    pin for
    members of the Party.
    (Of course,
    we were
    visited by the FBI
    as soon as the
    Panthers left...
BUT, they were not invited in.)
The Black Hand, holding lightning bolts was
a strong message of Black Power.
The litho pin has the Fox Buttons Credit Line
along with a union bug on the curl.
There is no rust or discoloration.
An original from the collection of
LARRY FOX - "The Button Man" (Member: A.P.I.C.)
