    Description

Cabinet card photograph (just under 4 ¼” by 6 ½”) of three workers with a steam boiler and small stationary steam engine, probably in Rhode Island or Connecticut, circa 1880s to 1890s. No photographer or publisher identified. The untitled view show three men posing for their likeness by a boiler and small steam engine, likely in a factory. Two of the men wear matching hats and vests that seem like uniforms. There’s a wheel barrow filled with coal at center, close by the door to the fire box in the boiler. A small stationary steam engine is set on a platform next to the boiler and has a flat belt running off a wheel to overhead shafting. Note the brick floor. I suspect the location is a small textile factory or large workshop in southern New England (Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts). The cabinet card is in good or better condition with only very light wear and soiling. The photograph exhibits good to very good tonal range and shows good to very good detail. A very nice early industrial image!
