    Description

Fine Antique 19thC Henry Troemner Oak & Marble Top
    Apothecary/General Store Balance Scale
Offered for sale is a fabulous, Henry Troemner of Philadelphia, oak and marble balance scale from the late 1800s. Balances such as this were known as BOX or COUNTER scales and were used in pharmacies to weigh drugs and other items.
The brass pans are marked “Henry Troemner” Philadelphia. His company began making balances in the USA in 1840, and was singularly, the most successful scale maker of his day.
The scale measures approximately 18-1/2" inches long x 8" inches deep and 7-1/2" tall, and is in very good condition. The round brass pans measure 8" in diameter and are in good condition with no holes or significant damage, just normal age related wear (dings and scratches) and patina. ......and w
eighs in at a very heavy 18 pounds. The only imperfection I could find is a small chip in the marble that you can see in one of the pictures. However it does not take away from the beauty of the scale.
The marble top and brass pans round out a beautiful 19th century scale!
Difficult to find in this condition!
