AUCTION INCLUDESCollection of 13 hand-painted vintage Revolutionary War miniatures including what appear to be George Washington and Marquis de Lafayette on horseback, along with American and British soldiers.
DESCRIPTION
See 12 actual photos.
Photo 1: The full collection of 13 figures
Photo 2: This part of the lot contains figures made by Imrie Risley, aka Helenic Miniatures. The rest of the lot are not signed but may be by Stadden.
Photos 3-5: Mounted figures of what appear to be George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette. Base of Washington is marked with script "IR." Bottom of base of Lafayette has hand engraved makers marks Helenic and Imrie. Hand painted letters on saddle seem to also read "IR" for Imrie Risley but it's hard to tell. Lafayette may be missing the horse's reigns, which is not noticeable and would be easy to replace. Each is about 3 inches tall.
Photo 6: A canonnier and cannon. Makers mark on bottom of base of the soldier says Imrie Risley. He is about 2 1/4 inches tall or 54mm. Canon has no makers mark.
Photo 7: American soldier with three pointed hat, rifle, and wooden bucket. Marked Imrie Risley. About 3 inches tall including bayonet.
Photo 8: Three British Red Coats. Marked Imrie Risley. One soldier still has bayonet attached to rifle. Extra detached bayonet included in lot, as well as an extra same rifle with bayonet from a fallen Brit, if you wish to repair/replace.
Photo 9: These 5 figures are similar to the others but they have a different base and no makers mark. These figures have a thin, flat, steel base with cut corners. This may indicate maker Charles Stadden. Stickers on the bottom say Made in England along with some hand written info.
Photo 10: Standard bearer or flag bearer with Union Jack, three-corner hat (tricorne), rifle, backpack, bed roll, canteen, and other gear. About 4 3/4 inches tall all together. Sticker on bottom has ink stamp Made in England along with hand written ink words that say "Amer. Continental Standard." No telling when this sticker was placed there.
Photo 11: Three gray and white painted apparently British soldiers. Two with rifles and one with clarinet. Similar sticker as flag bearer, with ink-stamped Made in England. Pen handwriting says "Brit Wagon Train PTE 1810."
Photo 12: Frontiersman or hunter. Base has rounded edge, not the angular edge of the others in Photo 9. It does have a sticker on the bottom that says "Made in England" and handwritten pen "Hunting Shirt."
MATERIAL
These vintage figures likely are cast from lead. They are hand painted, which may mitigate this, but I would recommend researching this, following any necessary precautions and not giving them to young children to play with.

Pieces appear complete and sturdy except what was noted above. I have attempted to pack this lot very securely but please note that some small parts may get jostled in shipping. I believe they will be fine but if you're not willing to take any chances with shipping you're welcome to pick them up in person.
