    Description

    Up for sale is this very unusual Antique scale. It is very much in the American style of Fairbanks, Troemner or Howes, with a pin striped Cast Iron base and standard balance scale on top. What sets this scale apart is the use of Chinese or Asian characters in its parts. My guess is that this was American made for the Chinese Immigrant market, perhaps for the Gold Rush era. It is small in size measuring about 9 1/4" long, 6" tall, 4 1/8" deep. It is missing small trays (likely would have been brass) from each side. One of the balancing parts on the bottom has solder added to it, I don't see a split on the other side, so it may have been preventative. Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition.
