    Description

    A beautiful sterling silver pocket watch for women.  1 1/4" in diameter. Ornate silver case. Dimier Freres & Cie hallmark in oval. Swiss movement, English case. Marked .935 pure Sterling Silver. ca. 1910. See pictures. Ignore the bit of glare on the first picture.
    Modified at the time with a watch face that had a suffrage theme.  I have seen a few of these watches in suffrage collections; they all say "Vote for Women" because that's 12 letters. They simply drop the S. I have seen two other patterns but the yellow rose pattern seems to have been the favorite.  Yellow roses indicated support for the suffrage movement in the early 1900s, at least in the U.S. Red roses indicated opposition.
    This is a lovely and diminutive pocket watch with little wear.  It isn't currently running but it was recently, indicating it just needs to be professionally cleaned. Not only is it a historical artifact, it stands on its own as an attractive period piece.
