    Rare White House Wood Relic
    This is an actual piece of wood that was used in building the
    “President’s House”….. the White House.
    From 1949 until 1952 the White House underwent much needed extensive renovation under President Harry Truman. The entire interior was gutted and completely renovated for safety purposes. Since the cornerstone originally was laid in 1792, until this time, the White House underwent many improvements that structurally weakened the building over the years.
    During the two and a half year process of renovation the interior was painstakingly disassembled and the artifacts were separated into 4 categories. Material that was reused in the rebuilt White House, material that was reused in other government projects, material that was sold to the public as souvenirs and material that was unusable and discarded.
    This small piece of wood was cut from a larger piece that was sold to the public as souvenirs.
    Each order from the public contained a small brass plaque that read “Original White House Material Removed in 1950”.
    Now you have an opportunity to own a small original piece of one of the most historic and famous buildings in the world. The wood is heart pine that most likely grew in the Mid-Atlantic Colonies well before the Revolution. It shows the tight growth rings characteristic of the virgin timber of the period.
    The actual piece of wood is roughly 1" long and mounted on a 5x7 descriptive display printed on archival safe, FujiColor Crystal Archive photo paper. It can be easily framed. The display is protected by a stiff plastic protector. The photos on the left side of the display card include the first one ever taken of the White House, in 1846, one of the restoration process in 1950 and one of the original wood that this piece came from.
    It would look great matted and framed!
    Any historian or history buff would be proud to own an
    actual part of the original White House.
